Vinimaya was founded by pioneers in B2B Commerce. In 1997, Gary Hare and Orville Bailey, co-founded TPN Register, with GE as the main investor. TPN Register built and operated the world's first commercial supplier network dedicated to eProcurement. Since few suppliers had an online presence, TPN Register deployed the model of aggregating and hosting suppliers’ catalogs and transactions through a centralized service. This model is the standard for today’s supplier networks.
After TPN Register was sold to Global Exchange Services in 2001, the team set their sights on creating the next generation of eProcurement solutions. They formed Vinimaya and incorporated lessons learned from their work at GE and operating the TPN Marketplace.
Applying Consumer eCommerce concepts to B2B eCommerce
The Vinimaya team recognized that the meta search technology being leveraged by consumer eCommerce companies such as Amazon, eBay and Google could also be applied to the B2B market. By applying meta-search and other Web 2.0 technologies such as Web services and intelligent agents, Vinimaya created the patent-pending SmartSearch Technology™ platform, a meta-search engine optimized for B2B eCommerce.
